Isle of Wight Railways was the theme of A talk given by Ross today. Growing up in Portsmouth, he’d often visited the island by railway paddlesteamer. Later he’d taken photos of the deminishing lines and steam locos there, meeting with helpful railway staff. More recently still, he has returned on railtours, visiting the Haven Street preserved line and also travelling on the electric trains; ex-London Transport stock. Quite a few of us were famiiar with the island, while others were tempted to go and explore there. Geoff R brought along a SR Terrier in I of W colours.
A half dozen members had lunched at the Red Lion, before the meeting. David Ho. organised teas for us, as we inspected ephemera, books and maps. Roger H updated us on future shows where EKOGG has been invited with layouts or displays and demos. Many thanks to Ross for a pleasant afternoon.
