Today’s theme on the circuit was six and four wheel coaches although sadly not many people brought theirs in. However, Dave B ran his prize winning Southern Railway six wheel coaches pulled along by his P Class and John B also ran his Southern Railway Alphagraphix six wheelers. I ran my SECR H Class with an assortment of six wheel coaches in SECR colours if not actually SECR coaches.
On the big table Peter was working on a GWR platelayers hut, Doug was building a Swedish railcar and John D was doing something with a large wagon of unknown provenance and scale.
Geoff had got his dates wrong and had brought in three large engines. The first two were un-rebuilt Battle of Britain Class locos 34066 “Spitfire” and 34082 “615 Squadron”. The first of these was involved in the Lewisham disaster of 1957 whilst on a down service to Ramsgate. It was subsequently repaired and returned to service, but both were withdrawn from service in 1966. The third engine was ex-SECR L1 4-4-0 number 31754.
David L and Steve worked on Queen Charlotte Dock replacing the MERG circuit boards with DCC Concepts Cobalt point motors as the circuit boards had proved
unreliable in operation.
Later David Ho and I (ably assisted by Dave B, John D and Rob with supporting brooms) fitted the last sheet of ply to the storeroom roof. And despite his exertions in the storeroom David Ho still managed to keep us all supplied
with teas and coffees as usual until close of play so hats off to him. Chris
