Today was a relatively quiet day on the circuit with only Fred running anything. He ran a Pecket 0-4-0T pulling a couple of GWR Mink Vans and a loco coal wagon. Fred also had a GWR Collett Goods 0-6-0 which is currently a non-runner and unusually has pick-ups on the tender wheels but none on the loco. Fred will sort this out shortly and we can expect to see it chuffing its way around the circuit along with everything else. Page 2 of 6 Doug appeared early on with his van to return Queen Charlotte Dock to us after the Faversham Show, and this was quickly unpacked and returned to the storeroom. David L and Barry huddled together in a corner by the window for some remedial work on David’s Terrier. This was fitted with sound and for some unknown reason chuffed away at five beats to each wheel rotation, an arrangement previously unknown to man. After a lot of head scratching and researching of DCC manuals the problem was fixed and normal service resumed. The big news of the day was that we were joined by Derek whom I had persuaded at the Faversham Show to buy an O Gauge loco and some wagons. Derek quickly settled in and we’ve got him hooked now as he’s now joined our select band. Two other things of note from the Faversham Show were firstly that we were invited to exhibit QCD at the East Grinstead Show and secondly that we picked up a trick whereby when children take a turn on driving something or pushing buttons for the whistle, we give them a sticker as a reward. Our artist in residence Fred has produced the necessary artwork and after passing it around it was approved for printing. Finally at the Faversham Show a number of people had asked us when we were likely to hold an EKOGG Open Day again, so we will give consideration to holding one sometime next year. On the big table, Geoff had brought in a small Dutch shunter, an ex-LBSCR Class E1 and a Drury shunter and Fred had brought in two small dioramas each featuring a small shunter. One of them named after his mother and the other after his grandmother. Geoff reported that the model railway show being put on in Dover on 7 November to raise funds for his church is being supported by small layouts from some EKOGG members and we agreed to take our stand there as well. In David Ho’s absence Angela picked up the catering reins and kept us all supplied with teas and coffees. Saturday 26 September 2026. Chris
