Today’s meeting was severely disrupted by traffic problems on both the M2 and the M20.
The Saturday Lunch Club, who were meeting for the first time at The George in Molash following an abrupt change in our hostelry of choice, was probably worst affected. Due to the traffic problems for both customers and staff lunch there was delayed and as a consequence our chaps didn’t get away until after 3.00pm. However, having said that food and service at The George in difficult circumstances was reported to be very good.
Those of us who had arrived at Badlesmere on time twiddled our thumbs chatting until the survivors from The George arrived at 3.30pm. Fortunately David Ho and John D having started their journey at 11.30am intending to go to The George were so delayed by the traffic that they decided to skip lunch there and go straight to Badlesmere thus enabling teas and coffees to be quickly produced as soon as they arrived at 2.15pm. So come 3.30pm those of us who had managed to make it to Badlesmere reviewed the draft of the new club banner that Fred had prepared. As with the new club leaflet it features photographs of Queen Charlotte Dock as well as Edington and Sarre together with some up-to-date photographs of club meetings. The new banner was unanimously approved for production, and Fred was thanked for his work in arranging it all.
We then got down to the business of the day discussing laser cut and other buildings. Fred had brought in three laser cut kits that he had built some years earlier. These had turned out very well and were an engine shed, a station building and a water tower. Roger had a warehouse building built with an MDF carcass and Slater’s embossed brickwork and a redulux roof. Roger also had a scratch built dilapidated hut and an abandoned shop with sandpaper for the rendered surface. Tim thought that laser cut kits looked too perfect and needed to be weathered or distressed slightly to give them a more realistic look. David Ho had a similar kit to Fred’s station building on his layout at home but extended and with added gutters and other details. David also had a line side hut that he had converted into a coal merchant’s office Effectively working a double shift today due to the late arrivals David Ho provided the necessary teas and coffees until we headed off into the sun.
