Today’s focus on the circuit was on railcars, dmus, demus and emus. All a bit of a mystery to your poor scribe but apparently, they are mainly green and don’t have a steam engine to pull them along. Anyway, there were lots of them in many different shapes and sizes running round the circuit and drawing quite a large and appreciative audience from the cognoscenti. Those responsible included David Gr, Ross, Rob and Fred and there were various comments along the lines of “just like the one I used to ride on as a lad”.
On the big table John B having made judicious use of a photocopier continued building more cardboard coaches while Steve worked on upgrading the bargain basement Prairie that he’d bought on e-bay.
David L and Barry K worked on tracing a short on Board 2 of Queen Charlotte Dock eventually tracking it down to a faulty turn out operating unit. The faulty unit will now be replaced and the wiring to this board finished off to the same high standard as Board 3.
While all this was going on I fitted the new transportation boards to the four lower level baseboards. These allow the four baseboards to be securely stacked together for transporting to shows.
Over lunch Geoff reported on the recent Open Day at Pett and our sales stand there. While the event was well attended Geoff questioned whether we should continue to take sales stands to such events as there is increasingly little reward for a great deal of effort. After discussion of the matter around the table it was decided to discontinue the practice.
As most people know Jack B is being transferred by the Navy to a new posting in Portsmouth. Not only are they moving him out of our area but are also rather unsportingly requiring him to work on Wednesdays so today was his last meeting with us. So best wishes to Jack for the future and hopefully we will bump into him from time to time at shows.
Throughout the morning David B once again kept us all supplied with teas and coffees in David Ho’s absence. Chris
