Today was the long-awaited Christmas Lunch; this time at a new venue for us, the Gunpowder Mill in Faversham, the change of venue being occasioned by some dissatisfaction last year with our usual Christmas Lunch hostelry the Red Lion in Badlesmere. Accordingly, sixteen assorted gourmands and trenchermen assembled for a 12.30 kick off. Unfortunately, despite having provided our menu choices well in advance the home team were late, and it was still over an hour before any food was served. The venue was light and airy with a pleasant atmosphere and once the food arrived it seemed to be generally well received although I’m sure that there will be an inquest and any other views expressed at our next meeting on 7 January. Anyway, we weren’t really there for the food but to share each other’s company and seasonal bonhomie. This we did in spades with some people even being seen in paper hats after the pulling of Christmas crackers. I have to say though that some of the jokes from the crackers were the corniest in living memory. As the afternoon wore on and we began to slope away we wished each other the compliments of the season and looked forward to another enjoyable year at Badlesmere. Chris
