It was another busy day with work going on both inside and outside the hall. The circuit was set up and coaching stock (today’s theme) ranging from pre-grouping through to BR was soon seen running round. Amongst other participants David G ran his BR four-car suburban set, with working lighting, which was later pulled round by Fred’s small prairie
tank. John B ran his four-car set of 4 wheelers behind the smart looking Hudswell Clark tank he had acquired from Geoff. Finally, Bill rounded off proceedings with his LSWR 0-4-4 tank hauling two very fine Southern Railway liveried coaches he had recently acquired on E-bay.
Meanwhile outside in the sunshine David L was sanding down two of the Upper-Level boards on Queen Charlotte Dock and later when the dust had settled Tim spray painted the large warehouse building for that layout. Once back inside David L and John P set about adding cork underlay to the track sections beneath the viaduct.
And while all this was going on Paul W and Barry carried out further cable management works to Edington to protect the wiring from careless hands whilst in transit. Such works seem to involve a deep knowledge of Origami and cardboard technology. Sean had recently bought a green Class 33 diesel which was reluctant to go and brought it in for some advice. Our DCC guru Barry investigated the problem and diagnosed a faulty chip so unfortunately the whole thing will have to go back to YouChoos to sort out.
As usual, I ran through the forthcoming meetings and exhibitions over lunch. As the Warley weekend coincides with our November Saturday meeting and as they won’t move their date, we decided to move our meeting date to 18th November. We will set up the circuit at that meeting and following a suggestion from David Ho will run our oldest stock even if it be coarse scale, clockwork or whatever.
Geoff reported that he will be attending a small show at Lydden in February next year. He will not be taking a layout but will take the club banner.
In December we will hold our usual Christmas meeting on Wednesday 20th December.
This year’s Quiz will be set by Tim and I’m guessing some signalling questions will be involved. After the Quiz of course we will adjourn to the Red Lion to partake of a traditional festive meal. Chris
